Expectations for Competitive Academy
Practice/Training
- Competitive teams train a minimum of 2 times per week for 1.5 hours per practice. In certain circumstances, a team may train 1 time per week.
- Training for the Fall season begins the second half of July. We understand families are away on vacation during these summer months and there may be some missed practices.
- Training for the Winter season varies by team.
- Training for the Spring season begins the second half of March.
- Players learn teamwork and how to translate it onto the field of play. Training typically includes formation, skill training, and fun. KOPSC follows the Play-Practice-Play model utilized by US Soccer. A strong slant is put on the technical ability of the player and tactical awareness.
- Trainings, practices, and games are mandatory, but KOPSC understands absences do occur. Any absences are to be communicated to the team coach or manager as soon as known. It is highly recommended that players attendance is confirmed for all practices and games in PlayMetrics.
Coaches/Trainers
- KOPSC coaches are volunteers, but all Competitive Academy coaches are expected to participate in US Soccer Coach Training. KOPSC assists in facilitating licensing for our Competitive Academy coaches.
- KOPSC has incorporated professional trainers to support our volunteer coaches in addition to players. Our trainers provide technical and tactical training to help develop players’ skill sets. Professional trainers will also run skill specified clinics through the seasons as possible.
Players’ Commitment Level and Attendance
- Competitive players agree to a much higher commitment level than intramural and are required to attend all scheduled practice/training sessions, games, and tournaments.
- Lack of attendance may reduce game playing time.
- Playing time will be equal for 8U-12U teams but attitude and commitment may affect playing time.
- Playing time for 13U and older teams will be based on attitude, commitment, and ability.
Games
- Each Competitive Academy season typically includes five to ten games both home and away.
Tournaments
- Teams will attend 2 tournaments annually included in the cost of registration.
- Fall Season
- All teams will compete in a Columbus Day Weekend Tournament, primarily Jack Walsh Memorial Tournament.
- Spring Season
- All 8U-12U teams will compete in KOPSC's annual Baxter Blast Tournament (Late May).
- 13U and older teams will participate in a similar level spring tournament to be determined by coaches with the Director of Tournaments.
- Competitive Academy tournaments are recommended by the club including additional tournaments.
- Should a team choose to compete additional tournaments or a winter league, additional costs will be communicated to you directly from your coach or manager with the option to participate.
Additional Clinics
- KOPSC offers optional clinics throughout the year at an additional cost.
Club Fees 2025-2026 Competitive Academy
8U-19U ANNUAL FEE - $575
8U may elect to pay fees per season. If so elected, fall season is $350 with an additional $225 fee for spring.
Additional Team & Personal Fees – Your Team Manager or Coach will communicate additional team fees for Winter play, additional tournaments, or additional professional training, if applicable. Cost will vary depending on team roster size and cost of events/programs.
Uniforms - Estimated $110-$130
New Competitive Academy uniforms will premier for the 2026-2027 season. All players will be required to purchase a new uniform this season. Typically, the same uniform will carry for a few years so that only new players and those needing larger sizes will need to purchase a uniform in subsequent years.
